Harbridge Racks Up Weekly Honors

Another honor for the junior tailback

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 19 2011) – Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) of the Saint Francis University football team posted an incredible performance over the weekend against Morehead State racking up 346 rushing yards and 457 all-purpose yards.

With that performance Harbridge has earned several honors including Northeast Conference Player of the Week, National Running Back Performer of the Week (College Football Performance Awards), National Performer of the Week (CFPA), a College Sporting News National All-Star, a Beyond Sports College Network Offesnive Player of the Week (Beyond Sports College Network) and National Co-Offensive Player of the Week (The Sports Network).

The junior running back from Easton, Pa. recorded 346 yards on the groundbreaking both school and conference records Saturday against Morehead State. Harbridge, a former walk-on, also totaled 457 all-purpose yards, falling just 10 yards short of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision record. His 346 yards on the ground are tied for the eighth most rushing yards in a game in FCS history and are the most in the FCS since 2005. Harbridge also set school records for rushing touchdowns in a game with four and total touchdowns with five. On the weekend, Harbridge outscored six teams in the Northeast Conference. His 30 points scored in the game are tied for the most by any player in a single game in the FCS in the last four seasons.

Following his big weekend, Harbridge now ranks as the FCS leader in rushing yards and moved from 20th among active players in all-purpose yards to 11th. Harbridge leads all division I running backs in rushing yards with 541 yards, only Harbridge and Marcus Lattimore of South Carolina rank as the only division I rushers with more than 500 rushing yards this season. He also earned honors from ESPN and was singled out as a top performer.

The Red Flash running back is the first Saint Francis player to earn a weekly honor from the College Football Performance Awards. Harbridge ranks as just the first Northeast Conference student-athlete ever named national running back of the week and the first NEC student-athlete ever named CFP National Performer of the Week.

He gained another 52 yards on four pass receptions and returned a pair of kickoffs for a total of 59 yards, finishing with a grand total of 457 all-purpose yards.  He scored a single-game program record five touchdowns (4 rush, 1 receive), three of which came during the fourth quarter.  Harbridge first found the end zone on a 28-yard touchdown pass from John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) in the first quarter.  He then broke off a 94-yard touchdown run, registering the longest carry in Red Flash annals, to break a 14-14 tie early in the second quarter.

Harbridge and the Red Flash return to action Saturday in just the second night game ever at DeGol Field as Saint Francis welcomes Duquesne for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
