LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2012) – Anthony Abeid (Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown Christian) earned Rookie of the Week honors Thursday from the Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association.
The Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association selects the top players each week from the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Abeid picked up the award after producing 136 all-purpose yards and the lone touchdown in SFU's victory against in-state conference rival Robert Morris. The rookie out of Youngstown, Ohio posted 116-yards receiving and catches of 60 and 50 yards. The 60-yard catch by Abeid stands as the longest play of the season for the Red Flash and helped the freshman earn Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors. The win against Robert Morris ended SFU's six-game slide to its Keystone State rival and moved the Flash to 2-1 in NEC play.
Saint Francis returns to action Saturday as the Flash travel to the defending Northeast Conference Champion, Albany for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
