LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2012) – The Saint Francis University football team saw three of its student-athletes honored Monday by the College Football Performance Awards.
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora),
Dane Domonkos (Windber, Pa./Bishop McCort) and
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) all earned National Honors from the College Football Performance Awards Monday. Kelly threw for a season-high 263 against Monmouth and added a pair of passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Domonkos returned a kickoff 97 yards for a score to break a seven-seven tie in the first quarter and gave SFU a lead it never relinquished. Neal racked up three tackles, a sack and an interception that sealed the win for the Flash.
Kelly threw for a season-high 263 yards and went 16-for-21 throwing with a pair of scores to earn national honorable mention quarterback of the week accolades. The senior also rushed for 46 yards on 16 carries and for a second half touchdown to seal the win for SFU. Kelly did a majority of his damage in the second quarter going 8-for-9 through the air for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Domonkos earned co-kickoff returner performer of the week with his 97 yard return for touchdown. The kick return for score was the first for the Red Flash since
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) returned a kickoff for touchdown in 2010 against Morehead State.
Neal continued his break out sophomore season with some big plays against Monmouth and picked up national honorable mention linebacker of the week honors. The linebacker posted three tackles and also helped stall a Hawk drive with a sack in the first quarter. Neal also helped seal the victory for SFU with a fourth quarter interception off a tipped ball.
Saint Francis will play its final game of the season next Saturday at DeGol Field as the Flash welcome Sacred Heart for a noon kickoff. The game will also be senior day for SFU.
