LORETTO, Pa. (April, 30, 2012) – The Saint Francis football team continued to expand its 2012 freshmen class Monday adding five more recruits to its rookie ranks.
The Red Flash picked up two local players and added a long snapper from New Jersey, picked up third North Point graduate out of Maryland and a running back out of eastern Ohio. The five additions take the Red Flash freshman class of 2012 to 38 in total.

Anthony Abeid - RB/DB - 5-8 - 175 -Youngstown Christian
Joins the Red Flash after completing his final season at Youngstown Christian where he played under head coach Brian Marrow. Abeid led the Eagles to a 10-2 overall record in his senior season with 1,389 yards on the ground on 172 carries. The Youngstown, Ohio native racked up 11 rushing touchdowns but also made an impact on the defensive side of the ball with seven interceptions, of which he returned three for touchdowns. He earned AP All-State first-team honors at the defensive back position in 2011 in Division VI. Abeid earned the Eagles' team MVP award in his final two seasons while also being named to the Dean's List twice in 2011.

Dwight Andrews - WR - 6-6 - 173 - Greater Johnstown
Makes the short drive from Greater Johnstown to join the Red Flash after completing a 9-2 season for the Trojans and head coach Tony Penna Jr. Andrews rated as one of the top deep threat for Greater Johnstown racking up 566 total receiving yards on 27 catches for nearly a 21-yard per grab average. At 6-6 the wide out stands as the tallest member of the 2012 Red Flash recruiting class. Andrews picked up eight total touchdowns in his senior season including posting two against Westmont. The Johnstown, Pa. native also recorded more than three receptions of 50 yards or more in his final season with the Trojans. |

Glenn Beckmeyer - C/LS - 5-10 - St. Joesph Regional
Joins the Red Flash from St. Joseph's Regional where he helped the Green Knights and head coach Tony Karcich to a 10-2 overall record in 2011. Beckmeyer 5-11, 230 pound, center and long snapper helped the Green Knights finish as the third ranked team in the state of New Jersey and the 40th-best team in the nation. Beckmeyer was also a standout performer for the Green Knights wrestling team.

Dwain McCray - DE/TE - 6-2 - 225 - North Point
Becomes the third member of North Point High School in Maryland to sign with the Red Flash in 2012. McCray played on both sides of the ball for the Eagles but shined as a defensive lineman and earned the team's MVP award among the defensive lineman. With the help of McCary and under the leadership of head coach Ken Lane the Eagles finished with a 9-3 overall record and a 7-1-conference mark. Following his senior campaign, McCary earned invites to the 2011 Carb Bowl and the Chick-Fil-A-Bowl, two of the top high school all-star games in Maryland.

Mark Watson - ATH - 5-11 - 165 - Greater Johnstown
Signed his letter intent at the same time as his teammate Dwight Andrews who were both key members of helping Greater Johnstown and head coach Tony Penna Jr. to a 9-2 season in 2011. Watson saw time all over the field for the Trojans racking up 162 rushing yards, 509 receiving yards, 16 tackles and five interceptions while also returning kicks. Watson posted his biggest receiving game of the season Sept. 17 against Westmont, when he totaled 128 total receiving yards and averaged 21 yards a catch. He posted his best game as a defensive back in his senior season against Bishop McCort, when Watson grabbed two interceptions and totaled 99 interception return yards. |
