LEWISBURG, Pa. – (Dec. 07, 2013) The Saint Francis U men's track and field team began their 2013-14 indoor schedule at the Bison Opener, Saturday afternoon. Team scoring was not kept at the meet.
A trio of Frankies finished in the top ten in the men's 60m hurdles pacing the Frankies on the day. Purcell Freeman (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) placed third, while Nicholas Conway (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) placed fourth, and James Lassiter (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) completed the trio placing eighth.
Daryian Miles (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) marked a second place finish in the men's 200-meter dash, completing the dash in 22.52 seconds.
"This was a strong opening meet for our squads," said Head Coach Douglas Hoover. "I was very happy with the efforts of our student-athletes." "Most of our returning students proved that they are ahead of where they were a year ago."
In the men's weight throw was Eric Edwards (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) was the top performer for Saint Francis. Edwards finished fifth overall, three meters shy of a first place finish.
In the men's high jump Nicholas Conway (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) tied for fifth clearing 1.91m, while Nicholas Miller (Bear, Del. /Salesianum) placed two spots behind Conway in a seventh place tie.
Ryan Steinbugl (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a 4.35 jump.
"We had a strong showing from our freshman class, it was a learning experience, said coach Hoover." "We learned some areas where we have work to, and we caught a glimpse of where this journey could lead us in a few months."
Saint Francis returns to action Jan. 11 at the Penn State Relays.
