Men's basketball to play 13-game non-conference slate

FULL NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

LORETTO, Pa. (May 29, 2013)
– The Saint Francis University men's basketball team's 2013-14 non-conference schedule was announced Wednesday morning via the Department of Athletics' official Twitter account (@SFUathletics).  The rigorous 13-game slate will preface the start of Northeast Conference play on Jan. 9.

The Red Flash will play squads from six conferences, including heavy presences by the Patriot League (5) and the Atlantic 10 (3).  Six of the 13 games will take place at DeGol Arena.

SFU will open its 109th year with the first of three visits to the Empire State as the A-10's Fordham Rams entertain the Flash on Nov. 8.  The meeting at the Rose Hill Gym will be the first between the two teams since the 1990-91 season.  Saint Francis has taken two of the three matchups, all-time.

The Flash opens its home slate on Nov. 11 with a Veterans Day game against Navy.  Former Penn State head coach Ed DeChellis will return to Central Pennsylvania as his Midshipmen visit Saint Francis for the first time since the 1978-79 campaign.

After stops at Dayton (Nov. 13) and Bucknell (Nov. 16), SFU will welcome Mount Aloysius, its only non-DI opponent of the 2013-14 season.  Despite being separated by only five miles, the Nov. 19 contest will be the first between the two schools.

The Frankies return to the road on Nov. 23 to tipoff a three-game stretch of Patriot League rivals with a visit to Colgate.  American (Nov. 30), which is under the direction of first-year head coach Mike Brennan, and Lehigh (Dec. 4) will make subsequent trips to the Stokes Athletics Center.

Cornell of the Ivy League will host the Red Flash on Dec. 7 before a weeklong layoff for final exams.

In the marquee matchup of the season's home schedule, Saint Francis will renew its historic rivalry with Duquesne at DeGol Arena on Dec. 17.  The meeting will be the 72nd in a series that dates back to the 1913-14 season.  The Dukes have not played in Loretto since the 2008-09 campaign.

Next up, Saint Francis treks to Drexel on Dec. 22 before closing out its road slate with a New Year's Eve contest at Denver.

In its first game of the New Year the Flash will play host to NJIT (Jan. 4).
