West Named Assistant Track & Field Coach

LORETTO, Pa (August 23, 2013) – Experienced coach Grant West has accepted the Assistant Track and Field coaching position at Saint Francis University. He will assist the SFU's men's and women's track & field program. Head coach Doug Hoover announced the hiring early Friday morning.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Coach West to the Saint Francis University family," said Hoover.  "He has a proven record of developing championship throwers and recruiting talented student-athletes.  I am confident that under his leadership our throwers will flourish.  He is a multidimensional coach who will be an asset to the rest of our coaching staff and our entire team of student-athletes.  Coach West brings an infectious winning attitude and is going to help create a great experience for the student-athletes in our program."

West spent three years at Rider University constructing the men's and women's track & field teams into a success in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. From 2010 to 2013, he produced several outstanding Bronc athletes, including 22 IC4A/ECAC qualifiers, one Junior National qualifier, four individual conference champions, the 2011 Men's Outdoor MAAC Champion, and the 2013 Men's and Women's Outdoor MAAC Champion. The championships were the first in school history

"I am very grateful for this opportunity to coach at Saint Francis University," said West.  "The thing that excites me the most about this track and field program is that it is already in a position to win championships.  I can't wait to start working with the student-athletes in our pursuit of an NEC championship."

While at Temple West was a 2009-10 All Atlantic 10 Conference team athlete, All-East team athlete in the weight throw, an NCAA regional qualifier, and the Atlantic 10 Conference Champion in the hammer throw in 2010.  During his 2007 freshman track season, he received the Rookie of the Year award in track and field.

West has an extensive track and field background. His most recent accomplishments are qualifications as a USATFCCCA Throws Specialist and Level One USATF Coaching Certification.

A graduate of Temple University in 2010, West received a Bachelor of Arts in History. He also holds a Master's degree from Argosy University in Sport-Exercise Psychology.
