SFU Water Polo Officially Joins CWPA

LORETTO, PA-Saint Francis athletics is excited to announce that women's water polo has accepted a bid into the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) for their inaugural 2017 season.

ABOUT THE CWPA

From the Conference Website:  The CWPA is the largest water polo conference in the country with teams in 75% of the states nationwide. Including both intercollegiate varsity competition and club competition, it stands as the only conference of this type. Due to its breadth and influence, the conference plays a pivotal role in the sport of water polo today, which will only increase in the future as it continues to grow.

"Traditionally, the CWPA is hands down, the preeminent conference in the east," Saint Francis Water Polo Head Coach Pat Beemer said. "Becoming a member of this league, it immediately raises the status of Saint Francis Water Polo. "

Within the CWPA, Saint Francis will compete against: Brown, Bucknell, George Washington, Hartwick, Harvard, Indiana, Michigan, and Princeton. The schools typically play each other once during the regular season and possibly again at the CWPA tournament held at the end of April.

"Each weekend, we are competing against conference teams that are consistently in the top-25," Coach Beemer added. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Traditionally, the collegiate water polo season starts at the end of January, look for Saint Francis to adopt a similar schedule for their opening year.
