Strength & Conditioning at SFU

The mission of Red Flash Strength & Conditioning is to improve athletic performance while simultaneously reducing the likelihood of injury. This is accomplished through a periodized strength and power program as well as identifying and correcting imbalances or poor movement patterns. We work closely with all sports coaches and the sports medicine staff to fulfill our goals.

Our Philosophy

We prepare our student-athletes for competition using an integrated, movement based approach. The fundamental performance goal of most athletes is to be explosive; creating power from the ground. Therefore, all athletes at SFU participate in a ground-based strength and power program.

We are constantly monitoring the student-athlete's movement quality. Any imbalances or poor movement patterns are then addressed through a correctional strategy. We incorporate flexibility and recovery into each workout to further the ability of the athlete to perform well while remaining injury free.

Red Flash Strength & Conditioning coaches use concepts such as periodization, complex training, vertical core, dynamic mobility, posterior shoulder stability, etc. to improve the athletic performance of SFU student-athletes. We feel that these modalities produce the best results; there is a difference between hard training and optimal training. All workouts are "total body", ensuring that all parts of the kinetic chain remain in balance.

Communication and participation with the Sports Medicine staff, including athletic trainers and physical therapists, plays a huge part in keeping our student-athletes healthy. Strength & Conditioning plays an active role in rehabilitation should an injury occur.

Strength and Conditioning renovated the student-athlete weightroom located in the DeGol Fieldhouse. Check out the new and improved facility.
