Athletics Style Guide & Logo Downloads
LORETTO, Pa. (Aug. 30 2012) – On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Saint Francis University football team will hit the field for its 90th varsity season and, for the first time under head coach
Chris Villarrial, the Red Flash will be sporting a slightly different look.
While the bulk of the Saint Francis road uniform remains unchanged from last season, the helmet will feature the University's new Block SFU logo. The logo is one of several new marks the Department of Athletics has rolled out over the summer to complement an updated primary logo, which still features the recognizable “Red Flash” script over a red lightning bolt.
The venerable primary athletics mark at the University had remained unchanged since being unveiled in 2001.
The updated branding and graphic identity also adds a logomark that features the name “Saint Francis” in block text with a prominent lightning bolt in the center, and an alternate wordmark spelling out “Saint Francis U.”
The “Saint Francis U” design – which incorporates the proprietary “U” from the Block SFU logo – draws attention to the fact that the Loretto, Pa. school is the only Saint Francis University in the country.
Since the new logos were introduced in the spring via the Saint Francis Athletics Facebook page, SFU social media presences have been among the fastest growing in the Northeast Conference. Since May, the Red Flash Facebook page jumped from fourth to first in total 'Likes' in the 12-team NEC. During that same stretch, the department's YouTube account has gained the second-most subscribers and its Twitter account ranked in the top-five as far as growth among NEC peers.
As a part of the brand update, athletics-related organizations such as the Stokes Club and Red Flash Futures also were given fresh looks.
Saint Francis University sponsors 22 NCAA Division I athletics programs, competing in the Northeast Conference and Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
