Meinert Selected as NEC SAAC Representative

LORETTO, Pa. (May 16, 2013)Logan Meinert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) of the Saint Francis U women's volleyball team has been selected to represent the Northeast Conference as its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative to the NCAA.

"I honestly do not know where to begin with expressing how excited I am for Logan to have this opportunity to serve on the Division I National SAAC. It is a tremendous honor for Logan, as well as Saint Francis University,” said John Krimmel, Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services. “To be 1 of 31 student-athletes representing all of the Division I conferences is a leadership opportunity of a lifetime.”

Meinert's term of service on the committee will begin July 1 and is effective until July 1, 2015. She replaces Nik Conklin of LIU Brooklyn who is serving out the remainder of his term.

"I am honored to have been selected to represent the NEC on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow NEC SAAC student-athletes and administrators,” Meinert said. “Also, I look forward to the opportunity to share ideas with the NCAA that will better enhance the Division I student-athlete experience, as well as bring new ideas and changes back to the Northeast Conference."

After completing an application for the position, Meinert was then selected as one of the finalists from the NEC and her name was sent further to be reviewed by the NCAA. Based on her application materials and qualifications, the NCAA chose Meinert to be the representative from the Northeast Conference. She is the first SFU student-athlete to represent the conference on a national level.

Meinert currently serves as the Vice-President of the SFU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is the former Co-Editor-In-Chief of the Red Flash Newsletter (the official newsletter of SFU SAAC).  Additionally, she was a part of the APPLE Team that attended the APPLE Conference in Charlottesville, Va. this past January.

“Logan has been a true leader here on campus and I am not surprised she was selected by the NCAA,” Krimmel said. “Logan represents herself, her team, SAAC and Saint Francis University with a lot of class and I know this will continue as she serves in this leadership role for the NEC. I am so proud of Logan and I look forward to watching her make a big impact in her new leadership role."

The mission of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well being and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
