Loretto, Pa. - Former Saint Francis Director of Athletics Bob Krimmel was named the recipient of the 2017 John V. Calandra/Stokes Club "Be Cuore" Award, presented at the Stokes-Hahn Memorial Golf Outing on Monday at Scotch Valley Country Club.
The endowment, established in 1998 by the John V. Calandra Family, pays tribute to John, one of the founding fathers of the Stokes Club.
"Bel Cuore" is Italian for a gentle, kind, loving, friendly, beautiful heart. The recipient of the award must demonstrate similar qualities exhibited by John during his lifetime.
Krimmel served as the Saint Francis Director of Athletics from June, 2005 to July 2017, leading Saint Francis to new heights. During his tenure, Krimmel expanded the number of student-athletes by over 100 while spearheading the implementation of a women's bowling program and University Marching Band.
The amount of $1,000 will be designated by Krimmel for the use of the Athletics Department.
