Tennis Poised for Three-Opponent Road Trip This Weekend

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams travel to Thomas More, Northern Kentucky and Dayton this weekend. Results will be available on sfuathletics.com following the conclusion of each match.
 
The Matchup: Saint Francis men (0-4) and women (0-2) at Thomas More men (0-1) and women (0-1)
Location: Five Seasons Sports Club (Crestview Hills, Ky.)
Date and Time: Friday at 7 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Both the Thomas More men and women opened the season last weekend with a loss to Cedarville at home. The men lost 7-0 while the women lost 6-1.

Against Cedarville, sophomore Kimberly Sabga earned the Saints' lone point at No. 1 singles. Two seniors and three freshmen rounded out the playing roster last weekend. The men's playing roster against Cedarville was made up of two seniors, one junior and three freshmen.

SERIES WITH THE SAINTS
This will be the first meeting between Saint Francis and Thomas More in the last 10 seasons.

SCOUTING THE NORSE
The NKU men opened the season with two wins, beating Bellarmine by a 4-3 margin the final weekend in January and beating Charleston 7-0 on Feb. 6. The men are scheduled to play at Xavier on Friday at 1 p.m. The roster features four seniors, two sophomores and three freshmen.

The NKU women come into the match with a 1-1 record this season, beating Western Kentucky by a 4-1 margin on Feb. 6 before falling to Xavier last weekend 5-2. The roster includes three seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.

SERIES WITH THE NORSE
The men most recently played on February 25, 2018 with the Red Flash earning the 4-3 victory where Sebastian Pinos won his doubles match. The women most recently met on February 12, 2019 as the Norse won 5-2. Both the men and women were scheduled to play in 2020.

Location: South Regency Tennis and Fitness (Miamisburg, Ohio)
Date and Time: Sunday at 9 a.m.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Dayton men come into the match with a 2-4 record. The Flyers were shutout by Louisville and Kentucky twice each to open the season. Dayton has won back-to-back matches by a 4-3 margin, beating Youngstown State and Marquette last weekend. The Flyers roster has four seniors, one junior, five sophomores and two freshmen.

The Dayton women hold a 1-4 record. The Flyers opened the season with losses against Southern Illinois – Edwardsville, Eastern Michigan and UIC before earning a victory over IUPUI last weekend. Dayton was also shutout by Miami (OH) last weekend. The roster has just one senior but three juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen.

SERIES WITH THE FLYERS
Dayton owns the most recent meetings with Saint Francis on the men's and women's sides. On February 12, 2019, the Red Flash women fell to the Flyers 5-2 while the Red Flash men fell 4-0 on February 11, 2018. Both the men and women were scheduled to play in 2020.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash men and women fell to St. Bonaventure on Sunday. The women narrowly fell by a 4-3 margin while the men lost 6-1. On the women's side, freshmen Dominique Yeo and Marie Discini each earned their first collegiate singles win. Romina Cutipa also won her singles match. On the men's side, Christian Banti earned the point for the Red Flash, winning his No. 5 singles match in straight sets.
