Red Flash men win at Carnegie Mellon

WEXFORD, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams began the weekend with a match at Carnegie Mellon. The SFU men (2-11) beat the Carnegie Mellon men (2-1) by a 5-4 mark while the SFU women (3-10) were edged by the Carnegie Mellon women (5-0) by a 5-4 margin. Both the men and women earned a doubles point in addition to four singles points from the Red Flash men and three singles points from the Red Flash women.

SINGLES
The Red Flash men earned four singles points. Jordi Garcia sealed the Red Flash victory with his win at No. 5 singles. Garcia beat Carnegie Mellon's D'Abreo in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Sebastian Pinos won his No. 1 singles match against Boppana in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Andrew Teixeira also won his singles match in straight sets, beating Poh at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-4.

At No. 6 singles, Matt Blose prevailed in three sets over Carnegie Mellon's Chen, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.

Christian Banti fell at No. 3 singles to Aprill in a three-set match. Banti won the first set by a 6-3 margin but Aprill won the second and third sets by a 6-2 mark in each. Daniel Vinces lost his No. 4 singles match to Motaghedi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

DOUBLES
Pinos and Vinces earned the win at No. 2 doubles, beating Pinckney and Bedi by an 8-3 margin. Carnegie Mellon earned victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. Banti and Teixeira fell by an 8-5 mark as SFU's No. 1 doubles team while Garcia and Samuel Ghigiarelli teamed up at No. 3 doubles but lost 8-6.

SINGLES
Anouk Ma-Ajong earned SFU's first of three singles points, beating Zheng at No. 2 singles by a 6-1 margin in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Dominique Yeo earned the win in straight sets against CM's Cornwall, 7-5, 6-4. Romina Cutipa also earned a point as she won her No. 3 singles match, 6-3, 7-6.

At No. 5 singles, Marie Discini fell in three sets to Carnegie Mellon's Tankova, 3-6, 6-2, 2-6. Nagisa Miyake lost to Qiang at No. 4 singles, 2-6, 3-6.

DOUBLES
Cutipa and Miyake teamed up for the 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Yeo and Ma-Ajong made up the No. 1 doubles team for the Red Flash, but fell to CM's Cornwall and Zheng by an 8-5 margin.
 

UP NEXT
The Red Flash men and women host Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at noon. The SFU women will play at the Ebensburg Tennis Center while the SFU men play at the Gorilla House Gym in Altoona.
