Tennis Hosts Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams host Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday to continue Northeast Conference play. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. The men are slated to play inside and the women outside.
 

The Matchup: Saint Francis women (4-10, 1-2 NEC) vs. Fairleigh Dickinson women (0-3, 0-1 NEC)
Location: Ebensburg Tennis Center (Ebensburg, Pa.)
Date and Time: Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
The FDU women enter the match with a 0-3 overall record and lost its lone NEC match to Sacred Heart. The Knights most recently played at Sacred Heart on March 1 after losing to Temple and Delaware to open the season. Against SHU, Fairleigh Dickinson earned victories at No. 2 doubles, No. 3 singles and a default win at No. 1 singles. The FDU women were picked as the NEC favorite, according to the preseason coaches' poll.

SERIES WITH THE KNIGHTS
The Saint Francis and Fairleigh Dickinson women most recently met on March 30, 2019, when FDU won the match by a 5-2 margin. The Red Flash won at No. 2 doubles as well as No. 3 and No. 4 singles, though all of the singles matches were close.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
The FDU men enter the weekend with a 2-3 record but a perfect 2-0 in conference matches. The Knights earned a 4-3 win against St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday after beating Sacred Heart 6-1 earlier in March. FDU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the doubles point and went on to win the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches. The FDU men were selected to finish second in the NEC preseason coaches' poll.

SERIES WITH THE KNIGHTS
The Red Flash and Knights men most recently played in 2018 when SFU earned the 4-3 victory. Sebastian Pinos won his singles match as Saint Francis earned all four of its points at singles.
 

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash men and women beat Mount St. Mary's last Saturday, with the men earning a 5-2 victory and the women winning 4-3. The SFU men also earned the 5-4 win at Carnegie Mellon last Friday. Pinos, Romina Cutipa and Dominique Yeo all were named Northeast Conference Prime Performers following their competition against MSM and CM.

In the men's win against Carnegie Mellon, the Red Flash earned four singles points on wins from Pinos at No. 1 singles, Andrew Teixeira at No. 2 singles, Jordi Garcia at No. 5 singles and Matt Blose at No. 6 singles. Pinos teamed up with Daniel Vinces for a No. 2 doubles win.

In the women's victory against Mount St. Mary's, Cutipa, Yeo and Anouk Ma-Ajong all picked up singles wins in addition to the Red Flash earning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. In the men's win, Saint Francis earned all five of its points at singles matches.
