Saint Francis University To Suspend Play For Women's Bowling Program In 2024-25

Saint Francis University announces the temporary suspension of its women's bowling program for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. The program was first established in 2010.

Due to projected low participation numbers, Saint Francis University finds it imperative to evaluate the feasibility of continuing to support the sport next season. With a commitment to providing student-athletes with exceptional experiences, Saint Francis University is aware that these factors may hinder its ability to maintain the high standards expected in our athletics program.

James Downer, Director of Athletics, expressed regret over the decision, stating, "Suspending a program and depriving student-athletes of participation opportunities is never ideal in intercollegiate athletics." He emphasized that the status of the bowling program does not align with the Division I experience that Saint Francis University aims to provide. Despite the difficulty in suspending operations, the university intends to utilize this period to evaluate the potential for reinstating women's bowling in the future."

For student-athletes on athletic scholarships, Saint Francis University will uphold existing agreements.
