Carper enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the track and field teams in Fall 2022. Last season, Carper helped freshman thrower Carly Sedun win the discus conference title, senior Katherine McLaughlin win the hammer throw conference title and senior Joshua Dinges win the javelin conference title. Carper has coached 3x indoor and 2x outdoor NEC shot put champion, Nickolas Hyde. He also helped guide the women's team to back-to-back outdoor conference championships (2021 & 2022).

Saint Francis head track & field coach Doug Hoover named Chris Carper to his staff in November of 2019. In Carper's role, he will be responsible for the throwers.

Carper competed at Robert Morris University from 2011-14 where he had unprecedented success.

He was a two-time NCAA National Championship qualifier in the Javelin (2013 & 2014), a 2013 NCAA Honorable Mention All-American with 19th place finish, a 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Round winner with personal best throw of 73.09m (239’ 9”), and a 2014 NCAA 1st Team All-American with 4th place finish at 71.19m (233’ 7”).

Carper was dominant in the Northeast Conference where he was the 2013 and 2014 individual champion in the javelin and the 2011 and 2012 runner-up. His mark of 68.60m (225'1") in the 2013 NEC Championships is still the Championship record.

Carper competed in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, taking 10th place in Javelin with 72.09m (236’ 6”).

A resident of Martinsburg, Pa. Carper has assisted as a volunteer throwing coach at numerous local high schools including Altoona and Hollidaysburg.

Hoover on Carper: "I’m thrilled to have Chris join our staff and our University.  His familiarity with the Northeast Conference, and experience as a student-athlete and a post-collegiate competitor give him a unique perspective and will make him a valuable leader for our throwers and our entire team.  His passion for the sport and our students makes it clear that he is a great fit here at Saint Francis."
