LORETTO, Pa. – Sophomore receiver
Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) was named NEC Offensive Player of the Year and Head Coach
Chris Villarrial repeated as NEC Coach of the Year to lead 10 All-NEC selections for the Saint Francis football team. The NEC announced the awards on Wednesday. The Red Flash placed eight on First Team and two on Second Team.
Villarrial, who became SFU's first NEC Football Coach of the Year in 2015, led Saint Francis to a 7-4 record, including 5-1 in the NEC, as the Red Flash won its first ever NEC Regular Season Title and clinched an FCS Playoffs bid. Saint Francis won a conference title and made the FCS Playoffs for the first time as a Division I program. Villarrial is also a finalist for the STATS FCS National Coach of the Year award.
Lewis, a member of the Walter Payton Award Watch List, is Saint Francis' third NEC Offensive Player of the Year, joining Quarterback Anthony Doria in 2005 and Running Back
Khairi Dickson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) in 2014. Lewis leads the FCS with 1,349 receiving yards this year. He ranks third in the FCS in receiving yards per game (122.6), eighth in yards per catch (19.5), 14th in receiving touchdowns (10) and 18th in receptions per game (6.3). Lewis needs just 84 yards to tie the SFU and NEC season record for receiving yards, held by Michael Caputo (2005). He is also two touchdown catches away from tying Caputo (2005) and Dan Mathis (1992) for the SFU season mark.
