LORETTO, PA- Saint Francis junior guard
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) is the new Division-I record holder for three pointers in a season, after her 141 made threes this season are best in
the season-ending stats.
Kovatch's mark of 141 broke the previous mark of 129 set by Brianna Butler of Syracuse during the Orange's run to the final four in 2016. Kovatch had to outlast Toshua Levitt of Texas Southern and Taylor Pierce of Idaho, who each drained 137 threes this season.
While Kovatch's 141 threes are a Division-I record, it sits third all-time across all the NCAA divisions, ranking behind Division-II's Laura Malernee of West Liberty (WV), who hit 146 in 2009 and Kanani Marshall of Division-II Texas A and M at Commerce who hit 145 in 2007.
The three-point record caps off a tremendous junior season for the Phillipsburg, New Jersey native. In addition to her three-point record, Kovatch finished second in the Nation in total points, 831, second to only Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State and points per game average, 24.5, second to only Megan Gustafson of Iowa. Kovatch and the aforementioned Levitt are also the only two players to hit 10 or more threes in a game twice this season. Kovatch drained 10 in a home win over St. Francis Brooklyn before draining 11 in the NEC quarterfinal win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
In addition to the NCAA record, Kovatch will take over the NCAA active career lead in career three pointers (349) after the graduation of Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State and Katelynn Flaherty of Michigan.
