Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) made it hold up as the Saint Francis women's soccer team defeated Long Island 1-0 in both teams' regular season finales on Sunday.
The Red Flash were 4-1-1 over their final six matches, but fell just shy of making the Northeast Conference Tournament. SFU finished 7-9-3 overall, and 4-3-2 in the NEC with 14 points.
Vespa scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at 15 minutes, 8 seconds on a header off a free kick. Sophomore
Katie Dougherty (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) (Downington, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) received an assist on the play. Boyer stopped four shots in the match to record her seventh shutout of the season, which qualifies as the second most for a single season in program history.
