Late collapse costly in loss at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 21, 2008) – Tied 30-all at the intermission, Mount St. Mary's used a 42-point second half to shoot past Saint Francis in women's basketball action at Knott Arena on Monday night.

The Red Flash (5-13; 2-5 Northeast) and Mountaineers battled back and forth for most of the game's first 35 minutes before the Mount took control of the offensive boards and built a lead as large as 14 with 2:30 to go in regulation.

The Flash out-boarded Mount St. Mary's, 40-36, on the evening.

“It really looked like they wanted the game more, to be honest,” said Saint Francis coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl. “They killed us on the boards and we gave up a lot of penetration that last five minutes of the game.”

“We need to play 40 minutes. Right now we are not doing that. We've got to rebound – that's the bottom line. We've got to rebound.”

Posts did most of the scoring for Saint Francis with junior Whitney Robinson (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont) (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont) scoring a team- and career-high 18 points and senior Emily Bollinger (Westminster, Md./Westminster), playing within 30 minutes of her hometown of Westminster, Md., scored 12 points.

Sophomore Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal Academy) paced the SFU guards with 15 points.

Saint Francis did not trail for the first nine minutes of the second half, at one point jumping out to a seven-point advantage, before the Mount's Dominique Mazzuchi nailed a three-pointer with 10:51 left and never looked back.

Mazzuchi scored a scored a game-high 26 points on the evening.

Saint Francis returns to action on Saturday when they host Central Connecticut State.
