EMMITSBURG, Md. (Oct. 19, 2008) – Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored her team-leading 7th goal of the season as the Saint Francis women's soccer team defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in Emmitsburg on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore forward Kate Bosy (Scotia, N.Y/Scotia Glenville) (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia Glenville) struck first for the Red Flash, scoring at 6:27 in the first half. Senior forward Alanna Vespa (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary’s Catholic) (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary's Catholic) sent a cross over to Bosy who tapped it in past the Mount's goalkeeper Alicia Miller to put the Flash up 1-0.
The Mount fought back on a goal by Emily Menotti at 18:57 to even the score at 1-1 going into halftime. Menotti was unassisted on her tally.
Junior forward Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) netted her 2nd goal of the season less than 4 minutes into the second half. Vespa crossed the ball over to junior defender Katie Dougherty (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), who sent it up to Grenninger for the tally and giving SFU a 2-1 lead.
Seibert, a junior forward, tapped in an insurance goal at 66:54 into the game, shooting from the right side at 15 yards out and beating Miller to put the Flash up at 3-1.
The Red Flash out shot the Mount 21-8, and had 4 corner kicks to the Mount's 0. Seibert led the charge for the Flash with 8 shots, followed by Bosy with 4. SFU had 10 shots on goal in the game. Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) made 2 stops for the Red Flash, while Miller had 7 for the Mount.
The team will host Long Island on Friday, October 24, at 3 P.M. in Loretto. They will remain in town to host Wagner at 2 P.M. on October 26th.
