Morrison’s Goal Leads Red Flash Soccer to 1-1 Tie with Sacred Heart in Season Finale

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Nov. 2, 2008) – Senior defender Jennilee Morrison (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) scored her third career goal, it wasn't enough for the win as the Saint Francis women's soccer team tied the Pioneers of Sacred Heart 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in Fairfield.

The Red Flash finish the season with a record of 7-6-6 overall and 4-3-2 in the Northeast Conference.

SFU struck first, when junior forward Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) crossed a pass over to Morrison.  Morrison, playing in her final game with the Red Flash, sent the ball past Pioneers goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt to give the Flash a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Red Flash kept the lead for most of the game, until the Pioneers put one on net with 8 minutes left to play in regulation.  Samantha Kee sent the ball across the field to Leigh Dogmantis who shot it into the net from the left side to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team could score throughout the two 10 minute overtimes, so the score was left at 1-1 in the final regular season game of the season.   The tie, combined with Fairleigh-Dickinson's win over Robert Morris, kept the Red Flash from earning a berth in the NEC playoffs.

Seibert had 4 shots for the Flash, with 3 shots on goal.  She finishes the season second on the team in points with 19.   The Pioneers out shot the Red Flash, 19-9.  Red Flash goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) had 4 saves in the game, as did Reichelt.
