PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Dec. 18, 2008) – Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) was the only Red Flash player to score in double-digits as the Saint Francis women's basketball team fell to the Dukes of Duquesne by a score of 87-59 on Wednesday night at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Flash return to action on Sunday as they host the Long Island Blackbirds in a 2 PM Northeast Conference match up at DeGol Arena in Loretto.
The Dukes took the lead just 10 seconds into the first half on a 3-point shot by Kelly Britcher. Janie Killian (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) and Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) were able to give SFU a 5-4 advantage, but the Dukes regained the lead soon after and never surrendered.
Killian made her presence known early in the game, and led the Red Flash with 8 points at half time, playing only 11 minutes in the first period. The Flash shot just 30.3 percent from the field in the first, and allowed Duquesne to grab 17 defensive rebounds. The turnovers that have plagued the team all season long were again present, as SFU turned the ball over 13 times to the Dukes 7.
The second half was all about Daly, as she put up all 16 of her points and 3 of her 4 rebounds after halftime, including 4 three-point shots early in the action. She finished the night shooting 6-of-14 from the field and was 4-of-8 from behind the arc.
Shawna Scott (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill?Academy) (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) racked up 5 points when she was sent to the free-throw line a team-leading 7 times, and added in another 4 from the field. The Red Flash took 17 trips to line, but sent the Dukes there 31 times. Kristi Little, who was sent to the line 8 times, shot a perfect 100 percent.
All 5 of Duquesne starting players finished the night in double-digits, and were led by Little with 18 points. Britcher was close behind with 16 points, and Rachel Frederick had 10 points and a team-leading 9 rebounds.
Hodges and Scott both finished the night with 9 points each, and added 4 and 5 assists respectively. Daly and Killian shared the lead in rebounds with 5 apiece.
The Flash turned the ball over 24 times to the Dukes' 16, and were outscored in the paint 42-26. However, the SFU bench had 22 points to Duquesne's 19. They finished the day shooting 33.8 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from the free-throw line.
