EMMITSBURG, Md. (Oct. 16, 2009) – Goalkeeper
Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon)'s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) six saves weren't enough as the Saint Francis women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision at Mount St. Mary's on Friday afternoon.
The Red Flash, who are now 4-3-1 in league play, drop to third place in the Northeast Conference.
SFU struggled to get its offense together, managing just three shots in the first half. The Mountaineers kept the Red Flash defense working, attempting six shots in the first half and 11 in the second.
Fifteen minutes in to the second half, MSM's Meghamn Brennan sent a long pass over to Emily Menotti. Menotti sent the ball over Boyer's head to notch her fifth goal of the season and put the Mount up 1-0.
The Red Flash couldn't find an answer, and took the 1-0 loss.
Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional),
Alyssa Kersey (Clay, N.Y/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) each had a shot in the game. Kersey had the long shot on goal.
Saint Francis will look to rebound from the loss on Sunday when they host Monmouth at the Stokes Soccer Complex at 2 p.m. Prior the game, the Red Flash will honor their senior players as part of the team's annual Senior Day.
