Red Flash Hang Tough for 68-60 Win Over Mountaineers

EMMITSBURG, Md. The Red Flash were 24-51 from the field for a 47.1 field goal percentage and made 24 trips to the free-throw lie, coming away with 14 points. The defense limited the Mountaineers to a shooting percentage of just 33 percent, and allowed them to score on 18 percent of their three-point shots.

Janie Killian (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) scored the Red Flash's first six points of the game, and came away with ten points on her 21st birthday. Her third lay up tied the game at 6-6, before Hodges made a lay up to give the Flash a two point lead. The two teams would tie up the score a total of six times before SFU took a significant advantage. A three-pointer by Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) gave the Red Flash a 15 point lead with 6:53 remaining in the first half. The Mountaineers slowly sliced into the advantage, and Saint Francis went into the locker room up 35-27.

Mount St. Mary's came out after halftime ready to do battle, and the Flash soon found themselves within four points of losing their lead after Mary Dunn made a lay up with 11:25 left to play. Two points from Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and a three-pointer from Hodges gave SFU somewhat of a safety net, and the Flash kept a ten point lead for most of the second half.

The safety net began to slip for Saint Francis, as the Hassanah Oliver sunk a jumper to bring the Mountaineers within six points with 41 seconds left. A lay up by Leah Westbrook brought them within five, but Hodges, Daly and Robinson each went to the line and came away with a point to settle the score at 68-60.

Hodges, who recently took over the 9th spot on the all-time list with 92 career three-pointers, had another two as part of her 16 point afternoon. She also came away with six boards, five assist and three steals.

Killian, who moved into the 10th spot on the all-time blocks list, added another four versus the Mountaineers and also had six rebounds.
