Red Flash Battled to Scoreless Tie at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (Sept. 27, 2009) – Goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) made 16 saves, but the Saint Francis women's soccer team couldn't find the back of the net as they battled to a 0-0 tie with the Youngstown State Penguins in double overtime on Sunday afternoon in Youngstown, Ohio.

 

The match up was the last non-conference game of the season for the Red Flash. SFU will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon at the Stokes Soccer Complex in Loretto, Pa.

 

Senior forward Rachel Seibert (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) lead the team with four shots, while junior Chelsea Traurig (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) was close behind with three.

 

Freshman defender Jennifer Brennan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and senior forward Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) each had a shot as well.

 

Kara Cooper had a team-high nine shots for the Penguins. Geneva Strelker also had five attempts for YSU.

 

Fearer stopped all 16 shots she faced, as the Penguins out shot the Red Flash 27-9.

 

Saint Francis is currently 4-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast Conference.
