The Saint Francis women's basketball team will open a two-game homestand when they host the Monmouth Hawks (6-9, 1-3 NEC) on Thursday at DeGol Arena. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. and the contest will be directly followed by the men's game versus Monmouth, marking the first time DeGol Arena will host the Northeast Conference's new Thursday-Saturday double-header format.
Series History
Thursday is the 48th all-time meeting between the two NEC foes, who first faced each other in 1985-86. The Hawks and the Red Flash finished tied for third in the league last season, both going 7-11, but the Flash would take the advantage on tie breaker rules. With last season's victory at DeGol Arena, Saint Francis has taken a slim 24-23 advantgae in the series. When on their home court, the Flash hold a 12-8 lead over the Hawks.
Extra, Extra
The Red Flash and the Hawks have gone into overtime a total of three times in 47 games, the most of any series
in SFU history. Unfortunately, Saint Francis has not had much luck in extra minutes versus Monmouth, falling all three times.
Hodges Hitting High Notes
Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) has been having a phenomenal senior season, and her hard work is starting to show in the NEC rankings. After leading the league in scoring for the past few weeks, Hodges is now second with 16.9 ppg, just .3 behind FDU's Mariyah Laury. The senior guard appears in the top 15 nine times in the NEC rankings. She is 14th in field goal percentage (.438), fourth in assists (4.21 pg), fourth in free-throw percentage (.805), fourth in steals (2.14 pg), sixth in threepoint field goal percentage (.423), third in three-point field goals made (2.36 pg), second in assist/turnover ratio (1.90 pg) and minutes played (33.0 pg).
Daly a Workin' Woman
Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) is a working woman, at least according to NBA stats guru Harvey Pollack. Pollack defines a working man's stat as a player showing up in every category on the stat sheet, which Daly accomplished at Lehigh. She was 4-10 on field
goals, 1-5 on threes, 1-1 at the line, 2+1=3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, a block and 10 pts vs. the Mountain Hawks. Daly came close to achieving the feat again vs. Long Island, but didn't grab an offensive rebound.
Next Up
The Red Flash will remain in Loretto to complete their first weekend of NEC action at home when they face Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
