TEANECK, N.J. (Jan. 22, 2010) - The Saint Francis women's basketball team will look to rebound for the first Northeast Conference road loss on Saturday afternoon when they play the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights for the second time in eight days.
Series History
The Red Flash are 27-17 against the Knights in the past 25 seasons. Saint Francis claimed a 65-61 win over FDU last week at DeGol Arena, and come to Teaneck with a slim 12-9 series lead at the Rothman Center. SFU will aim for its fourth straight win over the Knights, having won both contests last season as well. The two teams have never met in the NEC Championships.
So Over It
Saint Francis lost to Monmouth in overtime on Thursday, marking the fourth time the two teams have gone into extra minutes, the most out of any othe team in SFU history. Unfortunately, the Red Flash have lost all four contests and are 7-8 in overtime games.
Up, Up and Away
The Red Flash have improved on their shooting with six of 13 active players shooting above 40 percent from the field. Kelsey Caruthers (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) leads the charge with .462, followed by Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) at .436. Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) (.430), Sarah Thorn (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury East) (.429), Samantha Leach (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace) (.416) and Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) (.415) round out the group.
Hodges Enters Top 10
Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal)' 12 points gave her a career total of 1,245, moving her into 10th place in school history in scoring. The senior guard, who is also in the top 10 in three pointers and assists, needs just nine points to move into a tie for ninth place.
Coming Closer ...
Samantha Leach (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace) was just one point shy of her career high, putting up 25 points versus the Hawks. She now has a career total of 822 points, needing just 188 points to tally the 1000th of her career - a milestone she could reach by the end of the season.
