Kent State at Saint Francis Preview

FULL PREGAME RELEASE (pdf)

The Red Flash look to close out their season-opening three-game homestand by notching its sixth-consecutive victory at DeGol Arena – but Kent State represents, perhaps, SFU's stiffest test of the young season.

Saint Francis welcomes the Golden Flashes to Loretto for the first time on Saturday for the teams' second meeting, all-time.  The Red Flash are 0-1 against Kent State, with the Golden Flashes taking an 85-52 decision on Dec. 21, 2006.

Kent State totes an impressive 6-0 mark into the contest, having defeated its opponents by an average of 15.5 points.  Last time out, the Flashes buried cold-shooting Youngstown State, 77-39.  The Penguins shot only 23.5% in the contest, while KSU fired at a 51.8% clip.  They also out-rebounded YSU, 50-to-33.

Saint Francis is coming off its best offensive outing of the season, shooting 53.8%, in its 85-71 victory over Pittsburgh.

SFU last lost at home on February 4, 2010 – a 76-70 (OT) loss to Robert Morris.

Next up: Howard
Saint Francis will visit Howard on Thursday, Dec. 16 for a noon contest.  The Flash are 2-2 all-time against the Bison, inlcuding an 0-2 mark in Washington.  The two teams last met on Nov. 23, 2004 - a 76-58 Howard win in D.C.

Robinson Fruchtl notches 40th win
Saint Francis head coach Susan Robison Fruchtl earned her 40th career win with Nov. 28th's victory, 77-67, victory over Coppin State.  Looking ahead, Robison Fruchtl needs 16 wins to pass her predecessor Jill Poe (2003-07) in career wins.  Poe went 57-62 in her four seasons at the helm.

Saint Francis unveils new Athletics website
On Monday, November 29th, the Saint Francis Athletics website moved to www.SFUathletics.com as a part of a new partnership between the University and SIDEARM Sports.  The new site includes features such as a mobile site, text alerts, an online store, enhanced live stats & video and much, much more.

Fast starts for Daly
Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) enters this afternoon's game as the Saint Francis' second-leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points per game.  In first halves alone, she is SFU's leading scorer, averaging 9.0 points.  She's hit 16 of her 22 three-pointers in the first half and shoots 51.1 percent from the floor in the opening period, compared to 34.6 percent in the second.  She averages 3.9 points per second half.

Leach fills 'closer' role
Samantha Leach (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace) enters today's contest as the NEC's leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points per contest.  The majority of her work, however, comes in the second period when she averages 11.1 points and shoots 11-for-20 (55.0%) from long range.  Leach is SFU's third-leading scorer in the first half, averaging 5.1 point and shooting only 23.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Daly nears 900
Senior Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) enters the season as a strong candidate to become SFU's 20th 1,000-point scorer.  The 5-11 guard enters today's game with 886 career points.  After scoring only 75 points as a freshman in 2007-08, Daly has averaged just over 360 points per game over the past two seasons.
