NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Feb. 13, 2010)- The Saint Francis women's basketball team will take on Central Connecticut State on Saturday in a crucial NEC match up. SFU will play the next three teams just once this season, and must win to gain the advantage in the event of a tie in the NEC standings. Tip off is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, Conn.
Series History
Today marks the 23rd all-time meeting between the two teams, with Saint Francis leading the series 15-7. Though the Blue Devils may have won both regular season games in 2008-09, the Red Flash took the most crucial victory. They knocked the Blue Devils out of the NEC Tournment with a win in the semifinals.
Double or Nothing
Senior Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) has been stand-out scorer for the Red Flash this season, and led scoring on Thursday with 20 points against the Bulldogs. The game marked the 19th time this season Hodges has finished in double-figures, and was her seventh 20+ game. Samantha Leach (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace), who added in 14 points, has scored in double-digits 17 times in 2009-10.
Nothin' but 3's
Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) scored all of her 12 points against the Bulldogs on three-points shots. The feat is nothin unusual for the junior guard, who has notched 53 triples this season. Her season high is six 3-pointers, which she did twice against Long Island.
Think Pink!
The Red Flash are gearing up for their third annual WBCA?PinkZone Day to raise money in the fight against breast cancer. On February 20 versus Sacred Heart, the Flash will don pink uniforms and will later auction off the game-worn duds with the proceeds going to Making Strides Against Cancer. WTAJ news anchor Amy Mearkel will be SFU's honorary coach for the televised contest, which will also serve as the Red Flash's Senior and Alumni Day Celebrations.
