Daly’s Seven 3-Pointers Help Red Flash Hold Off Bobcats

LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 18, 2010) – Allison Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) sunk a season-high seven 3-pointers as the team shot 50 percent from the field and the Saint Francis women's basketball team took a 78-54 victory from the Quinnipiac Bobcats in a Northeast Conference match up on Thursday evening at DeGol Arena in Loretto.

Daly led the team with 23 points – only two of which were not from a three-pointer.  Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal) put up 20 points and seven assists, while Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Samantha Leach (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace) (Mount Sterling, Ohio/Miami Trace) each had 10.

It took more than a minute for either team to put points on the board, with Quinnipiac's Jacinda Dunbar taking the honors a minutes and thirteen seconds into the contest.  Leach picked up a point at the free-throw line to put the Red Flash on the board before Dunbar put up another layup to put the Bobcats up 4-1.

A jumper from Hodges brought the lead down to one before Dunbar put it back up to three.  Daly's first three-pointer of the night gave the Flash their first lead, but a jumper from Kaminski put Quinnipiac back up by two.  Hodges was able to tie the game up on a layup, and Daly's lone two-point field goal of the night pushed SFU ahead by two with 13:44 to go in the first half.

Another triple from Daly put lead at five points, but a layup and a traditional three-point play from Lailah Pratt tied the game up for the third time.  Lilley put up two points in the paint, and was countered by Dunbar to keep the game tied.  Kaminski made one-of-two free throws for a one points lead, but was bested by Leach, who shot 100 percent at the line to put the Flash in front again.

Kaminski gave the Bobcats a one-point lead with a layup, and then added in a free throw later to push it to two.  Leach tied the game on a layup, and the Red Flash quickly jumped out to a five points lead after Daly hit a three and Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) hit a fast break layup.

The Bobcats were able to cut the deficit to just one, but a triple from Leach put the Flash up by four again.  Pratt would cut into the lead at the free-throw line, and Ryann Simmons tied it up for the seventh time at 27-27 with 3:18 remaining.
It was the freshman Gibbs who would save the day, making a free throw and then a jumper to give the Red Flash a 32-30 lead at halftime.

Kaminski tied the game in the first few minutes of the second half before Janie Killian (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) made a bucket from the free-throw line to put SFU ahead once again.  Kaminski then gave Quinnipiac a 34-33 lead on a rebounding field goal.  However, Daly sunk her signature shot – the three-pointer- to put SFU ahead before Shelby Sferra tied the game for the Bobcats.

Leach took a charge to prevent QU from scoring again, but couldn't put one in on her own end.  Kaminski added two more at the free-throw line before Hodges hit a three to put SFU up 39-38.   Allison Smith (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) forced a Bobcat turnover to give SFU the ball back, which led to a jumper from Hodges to put the lead to three.
Hodges missed a three and was tripped up getting her own rebound, allowing SFU to keep the ball.  Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) then put up two on the inbound play before Hodges stole the ball and added two more points to put SFU up 45-38 with 13:28 left to play.

Kaminski put up a layup on a Quinnipiac inbounds play to cut the lead, but the Red Flash came up scoreless in their own end.  Kaminski went to the line on QU's next possession, coming away with a point.

Daly nailed another three-pointer to keep the Red Flash ahead before Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added in a layup to stretch the SFU lead to nine.  Leach drew another charge on the next QU possession, giving the ball back to the Flash.  Daly sunk a triple from beyond the men's line, putting the SFU lead in double figures.  Lilley came up with a big steal, and was fouled making the layup.  She then completed the three-point play at the line.

Pratt put up a rebounding field goal for Quinnipiac, but Lilley countered with two points of her own.  Hodges put up her 16th point of the night before Kaminski struck back with her 12th.   Smith put up two points of her own as the Flash took a 62-45 lead with 7:07 remaining.

Quinessa Johnson (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) put up a free throw to add one to the lead, and then made an athletic steal to get the ball back.  Johnson was fouled again, but couldn't sink the front end of the one-and-one.  Kaminski then earned a trip to the line, and also missed the first shot with Johnson grabbing the rebound.  A jumper from Hodges put the Flash up by 20 with a little over five minutes to go.

Kaminski sunk a three-pointer, but both Johnson and Hodges added buckets to keep SFU up by 21.  Kaminski cut the lead by two at the free-throw line, before Leach was also sent to the line and came away with two.  Daly sunk another three for her 23rd point of the game, with Smith putting up a layup soon after as the Red Flash grabbed the final rebound and held on for the 78-54 win.

The Red Flash shot 64.3 percent from the field in the second half, and ended the game at 50 percent overall.  They were also 50 percent from beyond the arc, with Daly herself going 7-for-11.

Smith set a new career high with 10 rebounds, leading the team as they outrebounded the Bobcats 44-33.   She also led the team with three steals and put up an impressive block.

Kaminski led the Bobcats with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Pratt had 11 points and Dunbar had 10.  Both Pratt and Dunbar finished with six boards.  The Bobcats shot 33.3 percent from the field and 18.2 from beyond the arc.

Saint Francis will host Sacred Heart in a televised NEC Championship game rematch on Saturday at noon in what will be their final regular game of the season in DeGol Arena.  Seniors Hodges and Killian will be honored as part of the team's annual Senior Day.  Former SFU players will also be in attendance as part of the Red Flash's annual Alumni Day.  The Red Flash will don pink jerseys as part of the WBCA's PinkZone Day.  The uniforms will then be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Making Strides Against Cancer Foundations.
