Robert Morris Hands Red Flash Second Loss in Three Days

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2010) – In a game that featured 36 turnovers, 51 fouls, 67 free throw attempts and one power outage, the Robert Morris men's basketball team dealt Saint Francis a 75-63 defeat in a bizarre Northeast Conference game on Saturday night at the Sewall Center.

Senior Devin Sweetney (Washington, DC /Riverdale Baptist) (Washington, D.C. / Riverdale Baptist) reached three career milestones and led the Red Flash with a game-high 20 points and 9 rebounds to go with 3 assists and 1 steal. He became just the fifth player in program history to reach 1,400 points and 700 rebounds during their career. Sweetney finished the game with 1,404 points and 707 rebounds, and also moved into fourth on the school's all-time free throws made list by going 11-of-12 at the stripe.

Junior Sorena Orandi (Vastra Frolunda, Sweden/Solebury Prep) (Vastra Frolunda, Sweden / Solebury Prep) added 11 points and 2 assists in the contest. SFU made a season-best 29-of-33 free throw attempts (.879) in the game, but made just 15-of-48 (.313) field goal attempts.

Karon Abraham had a team-high 14 points for the Colonials, leading four players in double digits.

Saint Francis dropped to 7-16 on the season, and 5-7 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Thursday when they make their first-ever trip to new Northeast Conference member Bryant. Robert Morris won its ninth straight game to improve to 16-8 overall, and 11-1 in the NEC.

With a major snowstorm hitting the southern half of Pennsylvania, there were worries that Saturday's game might not be played. The Red Flash had their Friday practice session cut short by a power outage at the Sewall Center. Power was restored early Saturday afternoon, but it again went out during the game's second media timeout, with Robert Morris leading 13-10 with 11:39 remaining in the first half. A nearly 20-minute delay highlighted a first half that featured two ties and eight lead changes.

The Colonials shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) in the first 20 minutes, and took a 43-32 lead into the break. The Red Flash shot 34.6 percent (9-of-26) in the first stanza.

Robert Morris opened the second half on a 17-7 run to bust the game open and take a 60-39 lead with 14:02 remaining. The Red Flash wouldn't get any closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Freshman Will Felder (Cleveland, OH/Lutheran East Hs) (Cleveland, Ohio / Lutheran East) added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals for Saint Francis.
