NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 7, 2011) -- Saint Francis University traded second-half goals with Central Conn. State on Friday evening as the Red Flash and Blue Devils played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
While salvaging a point, the Flash move to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Northeast Conference. CCSU remains winless in league play, with a 0-1-3 mark and are 3-3-5 overall.
"We played very well tonight," said head coach
Brenda van Stralen. "We were getting looks to score but just couldn't find the net. I'm very proud of our team for staying composed and continuing to try to find each other."
The Blue Devils' Jewel Robinson scored the game's first goal at 73:09 with a strong shot from outside of the top of the box. Robinson gathered the ball from 40-yards out, settled herself and fired a strong shot to the left lower corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead for the Blue Devils.
The Red Flash tied the score with under 10 minutes to play in the game.
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) scored her eighth goal of the season off a pass from
Eloá Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Jose Maria Matosinho). Nascimento sent the pass through the Blue Devil defense and McKibben finished into the lower right side of the goal to tie the score.

Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) finished with five stops. Her CCSU counterpart, Nikola Deiter, notched six saves.
The Blue Devils held a 13-to-11 advantage in total shots, while the Flash had a slight 7-to-6 edge in shots on goal.
Saint Francis is back in action on Sunday when it visits Quinnipiac for a noon match.
