ROCK HILL, S.C. (Oct. 8, 2011) – The Saint Francis University women's golf team carded a team score of 345 Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Invitational to put them in eighth place after the first round in the eight team field.
Gardner-Webb shot a 307 for the first round of action to lead all participating schools. Tournament host Winthrop, Presbyterian, Appalachian State and Bethune-Cookman round out the rest of the top five teams.
This month's Northeast Conference Women's Golfer of the Month
Ann Colligan (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) leads all of the Flash on the 45-player individual leaderboard as she sits in a tie for 16
th after firing a first-round 81 (43-38). Freshman
Mallory Cortis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) carded an 84 (41-43) for her first day to place her in a tie for 27
th place. Sophomore
Samantha Smyers (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area)' 89 (45-44) puts her in a tie for 38
th and freshmen
Paige Wojdyla (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Erica DeVal (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) round out the Flash golfers in 41
st and 45
th place with scores of 91 (43-48) and 98 (48-50), respectively.
Lauren Smith of Appalachian State ranks at the top of the individual leaderboard after day one when she shot a one-under 71 on the day.
Saint Francis returns to Rock Hill Country Club tomorrow morning to complete the final round of the Winthrop Invitational.
