Bowling opens season with 2-0 record

ALTOONA, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2011) – The Saint Francis University bowling team kicked off its 2011-12 season Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 record in a dual match with Penn State Altoona at Holiday Bowl.

"Today we faced a good opponent on tough lane conditions that required patience,” head coach Tom Falbo said. “I saw players step up to keep us where we needed to be. Lauren Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) had a strong day. She was fantastic in our Baker match and paced our traditional game. We have a very talented group and they will find themselves on all cylinders soon which we hope will lead to many more days like today."

The Red Flash were victorious in the one traditional game match of the afternoon with a score of 829-733. Johnson led the team in that match by bowling a 187 game. Heidi Baumert (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) started her sophomore campaign with a 177 game.

In addition to the traditional game, SFU and PSU-Altoona battled in a Quad-Baker match, which the Flash won by a much tighter score of 642-608. Individual games in the match finished as 160, 166, 161, and 155 for Saint Francis and 136, 141, 175, and 156 for Penn State Altoona. Johnson again led the Flash by striking in her first five Baker frames and finished the match with a 24.63 Baker frame average.

Saint Francis hits the lanes again Oct. 15 and 16 when they travel to Lancaster, Pa. for the USBC Intercollegiate Tournament.
