Red Flash Fall in Season Finale at Bryant, 45-34

Wade has a big day, while Kelly tosses three scores

SMITH FIELD, R.I. - The Saint Francis University Football team fell in its regular season finale at Bryant Saturday, 45-34.

John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Keion Wade (East Orange, N.J./East Orange) both put together huge days for the Red Flash (2-10, 1-8) offense but it was not enough against the Bulldogs (8-3, 6-2). Wade rushed for 135-yards while Kelly threw for 216-yards and three scores but it was not enough as Mike Croce threw for 278-yards and three scores and Jordon Brown rushed for 234-yards and three scores of his own for Bryant.

The Bulldogs opened the game quickly with the first 17 points of the game. Brown rushed for a pair of scores, one coming on a 62-yard run, while Tom Alberti added a field goal. The Red Flash responded with a six play 47-yard touchdown drive capped by a 12-yard scoring rush by Wade. Wade replace Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) after an injury on the Harbridge's first run of the game kept him out for the remained of the contest. Bryant put the Flash back into a 17-point hole with a three-play 58-yard drive for the Bulldogs was capped by a three-yard rushing score by Brown, to make the score 24-7. The two minute offense responded for the Flash going 51-yards in 1:37 to cut the lead to 24-14 just before halftime. Anthony Howze (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) caught the six-yard touchdown pass from Kelly.

Bryant scored the first points of the second half on a 10-yard touchdown pass by Croce which capped a eight-play 69-yard drive. Saint Francis responded with a 38-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Alexander (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) to cut the Bryant lead to 31-21 with 5:18 left in the third quarter. SFU stopped the Bryant offense and got the ball back for the SFU offense. The drove down the field but had to wait for the fourth quarter to find the endzone again.

The Flash wasted little time in the fourth quarter to get on the board. Alexander brought in his second 38-yard touchdown pass of the game to cut the Bryant lead to just 31-28 with 14:54 left in regulation. The Bulldogs responded quickly with a three play 59-yard touchdown drive that took 1:11 off the clock. Matt Tacey capped the drive with a five-yard touchdown catch from Croce. The Flash continued to fight and found the endzone just six plays later thanks to a five run touchdown run by Alexander. The extra point by Thiel failed so with 11:22 left in game the Flash trailed 38-34. Bryant put the game out of reach with a 23-yard touchdown pass by Croce to Jordan Harris.

Austin Miele (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area ) posted a career-high 18 tackles, while freshman Terrace Bourne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) collected his third sack in the past two weeks.
