SFU TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
With Monday's win over Wagner, Saint Francis clinched its first-ever Northeast Conference Regular Season title and the right to host this the NEC Championship – a tournament it won on the road a season ago – at DeGol Field in Loretto beginning on Friday.
The regular season crown marked the next step in the meteoric rise of the Red Flash program. Saint Francis had never advanced past the first round of the NEC tournament in its four previous postseason appearances but, after a record-setting 14-win regular season, won its first NEC title, 1-0, over Long Island on Nov. 6, 2010.
In Friday's semifinal round, Saint Francis will face fourth-seeded Sacred Heart at noon. The Red Flash defeated the Pioneers 2-0 at the Stokes Soccerplex during the regular season. Wins have been tough to come by in for the Flash in its series with SHU, as last season's 2-0 victory in Fairfield was Saint Francis' first in 12 tries against the Pioneers since 1999.
