SFU wraps up FDU New Jersey Jamboree

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (Nov. 6, 2011) – The Saint Francis University bowling team took hold of a 12th place finish in Sunday's playoff bracket style competition at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree.

"We were 9-4 this weekend, which is fantastic with a field this strong," head coach Tom Falbo said. "Our communication this weekend was outstanding and we worked to stay ahead of lane transitions. Coach Jones and I worked so well during the matches this weekend, and together we made great calls working with the ladies. We'll look for ways to improve as we head into next week's conference event."

The Red Flash placed ahead of St. Francis (N.Y.), Morgan State, Hampton, Bethune-Cookman, Howard and Salem International in the 18-team field. Tournament host Fairleigh Dickinson claimed the top spot of the afternoon. Vanderbilt, Sam Houston State, Sacred Heart and Maryland Eastern Shore obtained the remaining top-five finishes.

SFU compiled a 2-1 record on the day, beating St. Francis (N.Y.) 4-1, a nationally ranked team, and Morgan State 4-3, before falling to Monmouth 3-4.

Sophomore Marissa Matassa (Plum, Pa./Plum Senior) led the Flash on the individual leaderboard, ranking in 36th in the 119-bowler field. Matassa posted games of 258, 142, 201, 133 and 211 for a total pinfall of 945 and an average of 189.0. Freshman Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) earned a 52nd place ranking after averaging 182.8 in five games. Leid recorded a total pinfall of 914 after rolling games of 171, 238, 198, 151 and 156.

Freshman Annie Beliles (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) took 66th spot, sophomore Heidi Baumert (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) finished in 73rd, freshman Lauren Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) notched 84th place, classmate Lindsay Corner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) earned 89th and freshman Briana Ord (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) took 101st place after throwing just one game.
