Saint Francis opens the 2011-12 season against VCU Friday at the the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
FLASH FACTS
- Friday's meeting between SFU and VCU is the first since Dec. 23, 1990 when the Flash knocked off the Rams 82-71 in Richmond.
- Saint Francis holds a 2-1 record all-time against Virginia Commonwealth with VCU's only win coming back in 1972, when the Rams defeated the flash 109-94.
- The Flash feature three players from the state of Virginia while VCU has no players from the state of Pennsylvania.
- Red Flash junior guard
Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) and VCU senior forward Bradford Burgess are first cousins.
- Don Friday is 1-2 all-time in season openers as head coach of the Red Flash. Since 1918, (the first full year of complete records for Saint Francis) the Flash hold a record of 50-31-1 in season openers. SFU has not won a road season opener since kicking off the 1966-67 season with a road victory against Duquesne.
- Prior to Virginia Commonwealth's first season, Saint Francis had won 509 games and had five players selected in the NBA draft.
