ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Saint Francis men's basketball team fell on the road Friday to St. Bonaventure, 82-58, at the Reilly Center.
The Red Flash (3-9, 2-0) started slow and could not recover against a Bonnies (6-5, 0-0) team that earn 33 trips to the free throw line.
Scott Eatherton (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) led SFU with 15 points and Kameron Ritter added 11 with four assists but it could not overcome the Bonnies three pronged attack. Demitrius Conger, Christopher Johnson and Matt Wright each scored in double-digits for St. Bonaventure. The game featured a flurry of fouls with a total of 49 called in the game.
SFU started slow on offense and did not record it first field goal until Eatherton flushed home a dunk over seven minutes into the contest. Turnovers and strong rebounding fueled the St. Bonaventure attack as the Bonnies started the game on a 12-2 run. SFU battled back but red hot shooting (57.1-percent) for the Bonnies help them racked up 49 first half points the most surrendered by the Flash in a half this season. Both teams struggled as the game went on to get into a rhythm due to a large quantity of foul calls. SFU picked up 18 first half personal fouls after entering the game with single game season high total of 22. SFU looked to be building some momentum headed into halftime but a big St. Bonaventure 3-pointer gave the Bonnies a 49-28 halftime lead.
Saint Francis battled hard in the second half but could not chip away at the Bonnies advantage. The fouls contined to come in the second stanza and by the end of game only one SFU player, who played over a minute had zero fouls.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) fouled out with under four minutes to play and three other SFU players had four for the game.
The Red Flash return to action Dec. 31 with a road contest against Drexel tip off is set for noon.
