ALTOONA, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2011) – Behind freshman
Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata)'s tournament leading 1,042 total pinfall, the Saint Francis University bowling team registered a 4-1 record on day two of the Red Flash Invitational.
Saturday's traditional game format got off to a red-hot start for the Flash (31-13) as they took down 10
th-ranked nationally New Jersey City 948-878. So far in the tournament, the match with the Gothic Knights proved to be SFU's strongest. Leid rolled a tournament-high 235 in game one against NJCU to help lead SFU to its highest match total of the competition as well at 948.
Continuing its take-down of nationally ranked opponents, SFU defeated Northeast Conference member St. Francis (N.Y.) 920-887 in its second match of the afternoon. The 16
th-ranked Terriers threw two games of 200 or higher as opposed to just one by the Flash, but SFC stumbled in game four, compiling just a 134 score.
The Red Flash could not find a way to reach a game above the 200 mark in its third match of the afternoon but still found a way to get the best of Penn State-Altoona, downing the Lions 800-757.
In its fourth match of Saturday's competition, the Flash turned in a dominating win over Tulane by the final score of 908-674. SFU produced games of 222 and 211 by Leid and freshman
Briana Ord (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), respectively en route to its fourth win of the day. Saint Francis rolled its lowest game of the tournament in game two at a 126 mark but came out of that unharmed as the Green Waves registered just an 86 in that second stanza.
Looking to wrap up the second day of action with a perfect record, the Flash took on Medaille, a team they had beaten the previous day. The match remained tightly contested all the way through until the Mavericks held the upper hand in the final game 167-134 and took the win 767-762.
For the two days of action, the Flash have recorded a 7-2 record and sit third in total pinfall at 7,842. New Jersey City's 8,053 total pinfall count keeps them at the top of the leaderboard, and Ursuline sits in second with a 7,880 clip.
Leid's total pinfall count of 1,042 has her at the top of the individual leaderboard by a 56 pin margin. Sophomore
Marissa Matassa (Plum, Pa./Plum Senior)'s 821 total ranks her as the second highest Flash bowler in today's competition.
Saint Francis squares off with St. Francis (N.Y.) first tomorrow morning as it concludes the Red Flash Invitational in the championship bracket round at Holiday Bowl beginning at 9 a.m.
