BOX SCORE
PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 31, 2011) – The Saint Francis University men's basketball team fell behind early to Drexel on the road and could not recover going down by the final score of 63-42.
The Red Flash (3-10, 2-0) fell behind early against the Dragons (8-4, 0-0) and could not bounce back. Drexel used a balanced attack along with excellent rebounding to send the Red Flash to their eighth consecutive road loss.
Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) led the way for the Flash with 14 and
Scott Eatherton (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added 10 but it was not enough. Drexel boasted four players in double figures led by Damion Lee, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Daryl McCoy played big in the post for the Dragons with seven points and 14 rebounds.
Lee started hot for the Dragons scoring eight of the team's first 15 points. The Red Flash struggled to get to get the offense started in the first half and only four SFU players scored in the first frame. Ervin led the Flash in the first half with seven points and three rebounds. The Dragons were fueled by hot 3-point shooting going 7-for-13 from behind the arc in the first frame. Lee led Drexel in the first half with 11 going 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc. Eatherton saw limited time in the first half after picking up two early fouls and was held scoreless. The Flash were held without a bucket for the final 4:38 and went into the half trailing 35-14.
Saint Francis picked up the defense in the second half and slowed the hot shooting for Dragons but SFU struggled to chip away at the Drexel advantage. Eatherton fueled the Red Flash offense in the second half but after collecting 10 points the sophomore was slowed due to an injury that occurred during an on court collision. The loss slowed the offensive production for SFU.
Saint Francis returns to action and conference play Jan. 5 on the road against Central Connecticut State. Tipoff with the Blue Devils is schedule for 7 p.m.
