Saint Francis Closes Road Trip Saturday Against Bryant

The Red Flash look to end losing skid at Bryant

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 6, 2012)
– The Saint Francis University men's basketball team closes its season long five game road trip Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff against the Bryant Bulldogs.
 
FLASH FACTS
- Saint Francis ends its season long five game with just its second game ever at Bryant. The Flash enter the game on a four game losing streak and having lost their last nine consecutive road games.
 
- Last season, Bryant knocked off Saint Francis in Lorreto 69-70, it was the first loss the Red Flash have ever suffered against the Bulldogs.
 
- The meeting a season ago was a thriller that saw Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to give SFU a one point lead but Frankie Dobbs connected with on a shot with one second left to give the Bulldogs the win.
 
- Scott Eatherton (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) posted career highs in points and rebounds Thursday against CCSU. The SFU sophomore also posted the first double-double of his career with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
 
- After posting 11 points, four steals and five rebounds in the first half Thursday, Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) was held to zero points, zero steals and just three rebounds in the second half against CCSU.
 
- SFU is 3-5 all-time against teams from the state of Rhode Island with their only wins coming against Providence and Bryant.
 
- The Red Flash look to claim their third conference win Saturday an achievement they did reach last season until Jan. 20.
 
- After not posting more than 17 points in a game last season, Scott Eatherton (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) has score over 15 points in seven of SFU's first 14 games.
 
- After posting his worst shooting night of the season at Pitt (4-off-12), Eatherton has gone 19-26 (73-percent) in his last three games including going 10-for-12 against CCSU.
 
- Since losing Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) in the first game of the season to a knee injury, Eatherton and Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) have led the team in scoring in 12 of its last 13 games. Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) is the only other player other than Ervin and Eatherton to lead the team in points in a game since the loss of Shannon.
 
- Ervin has scoring in double-digits in eight of his last nine games, while Eatherton has scored in double figures in nine of his last 10.
 
- After hitting a 3-pointer in just one of his first six career road games, freshman Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) has connected on at least one 3-pointer in his last two road contests.  
 
RED FLASH ROAD SHOW
The Saint Francis Red Flash are currently on their longest road trip of the season (five games). SFU has struggled to win on away from DeGol Arena this season and currently holds a 0-7 mark in road contests. During this road trip the Red Flash will travel 1,908.6 miles, about the same driving distance from New York City to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Red Flash road swing to CCSU and Bryant is the longest trip of the season for SFU.
 
REBOUNDS KEY RED FLASH
Saint Francis has three wins on the season and all three have come in game in which they have won the rebounding battle. In their last game at Drexel, SFU struggled on the board and did not boast a single player with more than three rebounds. The Red Flash have collected 30 rebounds or more in just four games this season, winning three (FDU, Monmouth and American) and falling to VCU by just six. Under Don Friday, SFU holds a record of 16-22 when they collect more rebounds than their opponent.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
Saint Francis plays it first road game in just over a month Jan. 12 against Sacred Heart. The Pioneers loss their only meeting with the Red Flash last season in overtime. In last season's meeting, Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) scored a career high 30 points and Jon Taylor (Bowie, Md./Montgomery College-Germantown) led the Red Flash with eight rebounds. Sacred Heart enters Saturday with a 7-9 record overall and a 1-2 mark in conference play.
