READING, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2012) - The Saint Francis University bowling team got an all-tournament team performance from freshman
Shelby Derr (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) as the Red Flash put up a 5-1 record on the first day of play at the KU Fall Baker Invite.
"We had three players lined in and filling frames consistently," head coach
Tom Falbo said. "We are planning our traditional day tomorrow differently for the other players, as we see some opportunity in other areas of the lane. Our goal is to come out strong and score like we're capable."
Derr recorded a baker frame average of 20.3 on Saturday to help SFU reach the winning record plateau. The Red Flash and LIU Brooklyn each finished the day with one loss while fellow Northeast Conference foes Adelphi, St. Francis (NY) and tournament host Kutztown ended their first day with perfect 6-0 marks. In the way of total pinfall, Saint Francis ranked fifth of the 13 teams in the field by rolling 4,262 total pins.
In their six quad baker games Saturday, the Flash threw games of 755, 671, 649, 748, 731 and 708. Adelphi leads all teams with a total pinfall of 4,686. Sami Morlack of Adelphi was the tournament's most valuable player following Saturday's action on the lanes as she finished her day by averaging a 21.7 for her quad baker play.
Saint Francis continues the KU Fall Baker Invite tomorrow morning with five traditional matches against LIU Brooklyn, Adelphi, St. Francis (NY), PSU-Altoona and Coppin State.
