Game 4 Preview: Colgate at Saint Francis

FULL PREGAME RELEASE (pdf)

Saint Francis U opens its 12-game home slate on Wednesday when it welcomes Colgate to DeGol Arena for a 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Eve match up.  The one-game stop in Sweet Loretto breaks up a string of six road games in the
season's first month.

The Red Flash will board the bus for South Bend, Ind. during the late afternoon hours of T-Givs and won't play another home game in 17 days when it plays host to Lehigh.

The Raiders enter the game with a 2-3 record, including a road win over Coppin State on Sunday and a win at home against Marist.  Colgate opened the season with losses to Illinois and Marquette.

Murphy Burnatowski and Pat Moore are the Raiders' top two scorers averaging 18.6 and 15.8 points, respectively.  Both are superlative 3-point threats – an area in which the Red Flash defense has lacked this season.

The duo has combined to convert on a combined 27 of 56  (48.2%) attempts from long range.  Saint Francis opponents have shot 30.9% from beyond the arc – a figure helped by Penn State's 3-of-24 night from 3-point range on Nov. 9.

STARTING FIVE...
  • SFU is 32-7 in home openers at the Stokes Center; the Red Flash won its first 19 openers in the building
  • Steph Whyatt's 16.3 points per game ranks sixth in the NEC; Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston )'s 16.0 average ranks seventh
  • Sophomore Matt Mazzara (State College, Pa./State College Area) is the only Red Flash player who will not be available to play this evening
  • An SFU win would snap a one-game losing streak in home-openers
  • Krimmel on Youngstown State game: “In the second half we turned the ball over way too many times and gave Youngstown a chance to play in transition and that's where they're really good.  Give them credit – they did a good job taking us out of a few things but too many of our turnovers were unforced.”

MOSLEY EARNS CHOICE HOTELS/NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK NOD
  • Forward Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) averaged 8.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in his first two collegiate games
  • Eight points, seven boards at Niagara; Earned start at Youngstown State on Friday (8 pts/6 reb)
  • The award ends a two-year drought in the weekly awards category for the Red Flash; first SFU rookie of the week since February of 2010

NEWCOMERS CONTRIBUTING
  • Through three games this season, three freshmen have drawn starts (G. Brown, Drinnon, Mosley) and one more (Millaud-Meunier) saw minutes at Niagara
  • Rookies have accounted for 20% of SFU's total offense this season, led by Mosley (16 pts) and Drinnon (15 pts)
  • Freshmen have grabbed 27% of SFU's rebounds, led by Mosley (13 reb)
