BOX SCORE POSTGAME MEDIA CONFERENCE
LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 21, 2012) – Colgate shot lights-out from 3-point range to spoil the home opener for the Saint Francis U men's basketball team, 85-76, on Wednesday at DeGol Arena. The Raiders shot 70% (14-for-20) from long-range led by Pat Moore who dropped 25 points and 21 via the 3-ball.
Murphy Burnatowski and Damon Sherman-Newsome added 12 points each, and Luke Roh scored 11 for the Raiders (3-3).
The Red Flash (0-4) – which shot 51.7% (30-for-58) from the field – had four players score in double figures paced by
Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City)'s breakout 24-point performance.
Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) added 15, and
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) and
Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) contributed 14 each.
“We knew what we were going to get coming into the game against Colgate,” said SFU head coach
Rob Krimmel. “They had some guys who could really shoot the basketball and they executed their offense well.”
“Give our guys credit, they fought back, but when you dig yourself that deep of a hole every possession counts and defensively we didn't do a good enough job tonight.”
The Red Flash led 37-36 at the break in a back-and-forth game, but the Raiders went on a 14-2 run in the first 3:34 of the second half.
Saint Francis battled back and tied it at 68 with 5:56 left on a
Stephon Whyatt (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) layup and Drinnon tied it at 72-all at the 2:59 mark, but Colgate closed with a 13-4 burst for the final margin.
The Flash committed only two turnovers in the game compared Colgate's 13. The Raiders, however, dominated the boards to the tune of 35-18. Burnatowski pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Saint Francis returns to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Notre Dame. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.
