PREGAME RELEASE (pdf)
Saint Francis U continues its early-season travels on Saturday when it pays a visit to Notre Dame for a 1 p.m. contest. The Red Flash fell to 0-4 on the young season with a setback against Colgate in its home opener on Wednesday but did see a silver lining thanks to a breakout performance by junior
Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City).
Shannon, who missed the 2011-12 season due to an ACL tear, dropped 24 points in the contest. The Flash also got a bump from freshman post players
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) and
Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) who combined for 27 points.
The Fighting Irish are 4-1 overall and 3-0 at Purcell Pavilion after a 65-48 win over George Washington on Wednesday. Notre Dame opened the season ranked and reached the no. 20 spot before dropping a 79-70 overtime loss to Saint Joseph's on Nov. 16.
Jack Cooley leads three Irish players who average double-digit scoring totals (15.2). Pat Connaughton is Notre Dame's leading long-range threat, hitting on nine 3-pointers. As a team, Notre Dame totes a 3-point field goal percentage of 31.5 (29-92).
SFU opponents have shot 39.8% (35-88) from beyond the arc in 2012-13.
