Notre Dame turns back Red Flash, 69-52

BOX SCORE SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Notre Dame's Jack Cooley had 13 points and 13 rebounds Saturday to lead the Fighting Irish to a 69-52 win over Saint Francis University at Purcell Pavilion.

Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) scored a game-high 14 points and Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) had 12 points on four 3-pointers for Saint Francis (0-5), which lost its ninth straight road game dating back to last season.  The Irish (5-1) have won 39 of their last 40 home games and improved to 44-0 all-time in November under coach Mike Brey.

"We're playing some young guys," said SFU head coach Rob Krimmel. "We're starting two freshmen and we have three freshmen in the lineup, those guys this is their fifth college basketball game. We're talking to them about the process, and what it takes to win."

"We're doing some better things offensively, getting guys on the same page, and a lot of that has to do with the leadership of Umar. Getting him back in the swing of things and him running the show out there you know he's our big brother. As he continues to get better our team will get better."

Eric Atkins and Cameron Biedscheid each scored 13 points as well for the Irish, and Garrick Sherman had 11 points in his first start of the season.

Red Flash rookie post player Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) did an impressive job against the big men for the Irish, All-Big East selection Cooley included.  Mosley scored eight points and pulled down three boards while helping to limit Cooley to his second-lowest scoring total of the season.

The Red Flash returns to action on Saturday when it visits American for a 1 p.m. contest.
