Early Lehigh run proves decisive in, 83-67, loss

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 8, 2012) – Lehigh opened the game with a 13-0 run then maintained that margin for the duration of the game as it upended Saint Francis U, 83-67, in front of 1,526 at DeGol Arena on Saturday.

The Mountain Hawks' early game run was broken up by Red Flash rookie Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep), who pulled down an offensive rebound and laid the ball in to spark a 6-0.

From that point on, SFU matched Lehigh virtually point-for-point as evidenced by the final 16-point margin.  Less the early momentum-seizing run, the teams would have been tied at 66 with 2:26 to play.

Saint Francis whittled its deficit to as few as six points in the first half, but Lehigh rebounded to outscore the Flash 18-to-9 in the period's final eight-and-a-half minutes to set the 43-28 halftime margin.

“When you spot a team a 13-point lead and a team with that experience, to start the game, you dig yourself a whole that is very, very hard to get out of,” said SFU head coach Rob Krimmel.  “Give their guys credit, when they needed to make a play to stop one of our runs, they did.”

Lehigh All-America player C.J. McCollum scored a game-high 29 points but was trailed closely by SFU junior Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City), who posted a season-best 26 points.  Shannon scored 21 of his points in the second half.

Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) chipped in 15 points for the Red Flash with a 5-of-9 effort from the 3-point arc.

After a weeklong break for final exams, Saint Francis welcomes Bucknell on Monday, Dec. 17 for a 7 p.m. game.
